Special Thanks

Special Thanks goes to EA Games, for the creation of Battlefield 1942, without which, I would never have started this project, or been able to show my worth, as well as for placing such useful tutorials and other information on the internet for easy access.  Special Thanks as well, to My Friends, who made time throughout these long years, to help me playtest HTroop.  I offer my thanks as well, to all the Modding Teams who allowed their material to be combined to create HTroop, mini-mod for Bf1942, as well as all of their team members giving me advice, and helping me through issues throughout the years.  I give thanks to my World War 2 Historical Correctness Consultants Blake "Captain" Johanson, who helped me give each country their correct equipment, vehicles, and more.  I thank all my friends & playtesters, including my fiance Jamie "Warrior Queen" Schuster, and my friends Xander "MorphosXL" Lescher, Joe "The Impaler" Schnabelle, Eric "Wolfman" McIntyre-Nicoline, Jeff "Red Death" Neely, Frank "Sir Franklin" Sunich, Dominic "Taz Man" Pirello, and Michael "TL Universe" Pacione.

HTroop Requirements

Welcome Everyone to HTroop!  I hope that you feel the exhilaration and passion when playing HTroop, that I have put into it over the years.  HTroop is a mini-mod for the retail Electronic Arts game, Battlefield 1942.  It is composed of and requires gamers to download and install other mods, to play HTroop.  The other mods required to run HTroop are as follows:

*Battlefield 1942 (Version 1.61)

*Battlefield:  The Road to Rome (Version 1.6)

*Battlefield:  Secret Weapons of World War II (Version 1.6)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Forgotten Hope (Version 0.7)
You may download Forgotten Hope at one of these websites below:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/forgotten-hope/downloads/forgotten-hope-07-full-win7

or

http://www.gamefront.com/files/listing/pub2/Battlefield_1942/Modifications/Total_Conversions/Forgotten_Hope

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Eve of Destruction:  The Indochina Vietnam Conflict (Version 1.50)

**Don't worry, you can still download and play EoD v2.51.  The HTroop installation file, installs both HTroop in the Mods folder, as well as EoD v1.50 in the Mods\HT_Data folder, allowing HTroop to read off of EoD v1.50, with no problems.  As of the current moment, HTroop does not work with EoD v2.51.  So just install HTroop, and you will have EoD v1.50.  I do recommend downloading and playing EoD v2.51; you may download it at the address given below:

Intro And History of HTroop

From the Mind of Joshua Hales (Professor Smith) & the Devotion and Patience of his Playtesting Team,
HTroop is Born!  Included in the video hereafter, are presented, the Various Mods, from which Marvelous Creations were combined with 90% Rescripted Objects, including Prototypal Object Combinations.

I have been modding/editing PC Games for the last 19 Years of my life.  The first game I started editing, was Doom 2, making & editing maps at first, then moving onto sprite editing, game physics, and more.  This was done using an IBM Compatible 386, with 100MB of HD Space & 4MB of RAM.  During this time, I also edited and ran a few BBS games, such as Tradewars 2002 & Legend of the Red Dragon.  After Doom 2, I dabbled in QBasic for a bit, then moved onto editing other games, such as Rise of the Triad, Command & Conquer, and Red Alert.
My next computer that I bought, was a Dell Dimension 4600 Series, with 500MB RAM, which was a major graphics and game play enhancer for me (lol).  When Battlefield 1942 was released in 2002, I played it every chance I had.  It inspired me to make my own map using Battlecraft 42, called The_Tower.  I put as much as I had into The_Tower, but when I was done, I wanted to be able to change more.  The soldier's jumping was too weak, the tanks were destroyed in one or two shots, most would drown in the water before making it to shore, and shooting a soldier in places that would kill someone in real life, took 2 or 3 shots just to kill them.  I wanted to create a modification for Battlefield 1942 that would be like the old Arcade Games a lot of us gamers used to play.  My vision included extended combat and more cinematic effects.
At first, I checked to see if it was even possible and happened across the Mod Development Toolkit.  Now, this may sound a bit naive, but at the time I wasn't very "research savy", and when I started modding Bf1942, I didn't realize there were tutorials available online.  So, like all other editing processes in the past for the other games, I taught myself how to mod/edit, through trial and error.  I would change one small thing, repack the .rfa file, start the game, & test it out; write down notes.  This went on for 3 years, until I finally decided to go against my Obsessive Compulsive nature, and reach out for help on the net.  I discovered the tutorials & forums, and it opened up the almost endless possibilities.  I found a whole bunch of amazing mods out there, from which I started creating HTroop, Mini-Mod for Battlefield 1942.  Over the next 9 years after that, I had 3 computer crashes, and had to start HTroop almost from scratch each time.  Over the 12 years of making HTroop, I have put more than 32,000 Hours of Game Design time into perfecting HTroop, and I'm still going, but I promised myself and others I would have the Beta Version released by 2014, and I keep my promises.
I have never been well off financially speaking, and had to work with what I had available to me.  For this reason, for LAN play testing, I was forced to divide HTroop onto 6 or 7 (700MB) data cds after every major group of edits, then goto the local cyber cafe with a couple of friends, beg the cafe owner to allow me to install Bf1942 & HTroop on a few of their computers (again every time we went there because they would wipe Bf1942 & HTroop from the computers every night), then test out my edits over a Local Area Network.  Many times, I would go through the hour or so it took me to install the game & mod on 3 or 4 computers, only to have it Crash to the Desktop.  Then it was back to the "drawing board" until next time.  Other ways of testing HTroop, included starting Bf1942 on my computer, then Alt-Tabbing out to the desktop, starting Bf1942 a 2nd time, and joining my own LAN game.  That was very taxing on my computer though, so I tried not to do that as much as possible.  Another way was bringing HTroop to the community college's computer club LAN Parties, taking about 3 hours to install Bf1942 & HTroop on 40+ computers, then I'd go through the same failures or successes I had at the cyber cafe.
As you have read, I went through a lot of trials and tribulations with HTroop over the last 12 years, and all to entertain others.  I have always been a bit of a perfectionist, and never had anyone else offering to help me mod, except for my fiance Jamie, My Warrior Queen, during the last 5 years.  What I did have, was friends graciously willing to help me play test HTroop, and I dearly thank them all for more of a decade of their patience.

The Hope That Kept Me Going

My wish, my hope, is that EA Games will take notice of my mini-mod HTroop, as well as all the various mods that make up HTroop (Battlefield 1942, Battlefield:  The Road to Rome, Battlefield:  Secret Weapons of World War II, Forgotten Hope, Eve of Destruction:  The Indochina Vietnam Conflict, The Great War, Parallel World, Battlefield Pirates, Desert Combat, Desert Combat Final,
and Silent Heroes).  It is my opinion that each and every modder out here, devoting many years of their lives to creating an incredible mod for the purpose of simply entertaining others, would be an invaluable addition to EA Game's, Game Design team.

A Note Regarding Maps In HTroop

As you can see below, I have not only created a some of my own maps, but I have downloaded and converted a large number of maps to work with HTroop.  I have also enhanced the maps (as well as everything within HTroop) to lengthen combat, and make a more arcade style of gameplay.
If at any time, you find a map within HTroop that you created, and the map's briefing does not have you listed as the author/creator, or you were not contacted regarding permission, my apologies.  I did extensive research on the creators of each and every map, and my not contacting each creator, is due to my inability to find the proper contact information for them online, or finding old email addresses, or their website being under construction (or non existant).  If this occurs, please do not call up the attorneys (lol).  Just send me an email at:  professor_smth@yahoo.com   and give me permission to keep your map in HTroop, showing everyone your map(s) being played in Arcade Style Game Play, or deny me permission, and your map(s) will be removed unless you (the map creator) decide otherwise at a later time, to allow it.  If you give me permission, or simply notice (as I mentioned above) that I haven't given you proper credit, I will gladly place your real name or your modding name (or call sign), into the briefing of your map(s), as well as your website address if you wish.
I would also like to apologize for all the unfinished map briefings.  When I was give the opportunity to release HTroop Beta, I jumped at the chance, and completed the most important edits and finishing touches.  I will gladly give anyone credit in a briefing, for those that wish to submit comments and testimonials for the maps.  Please remember though, that there is limited space for briefings (roughly 7 to 10 lines at the most; any additional is cut off).

Objects Used In HTroop:

HTroop was created and edited by me, Joshua "Grand Admiral" Hales.  I did use vehicles, objects, maps, effects, sounds, and more from other mods to make mine more enjoyable (a mix of all my favorite things from many different mods), though I will not be naming all of them right now.

(Note:  This is the rough draft of the Credits file.  A more advanced, scrolling credits file has been added, but I cannot figure out yet how to place all the information that I want into said credits.  Also, I need help from all my play testers and anyone else that would like to join the team, to make video clips/action scenes for HTroop.  I suggest the use of FRAPS, a video recording progam.  You may use what ever you would like.  Please gather your clips together, and send them to me as a *.rar file [using WinRar].  Thank You.)

Developer's Notes:

Over the years, I have come across many problems and glitches, that have popped up in HTroop.  I have corrected a lot of said issues, but there are still bugs, as you will notice.  For example, when using the MasterKnifeSet, the soldier's hands do not move.  I have done animation scripting for all newly renamed and newly created handweapons in HTroop, and still cannot figure out what the problem is.  I am having similar problems with the animation for the Rocketpack Trigger; instead of clicking it, it wants to try throwing it like a grenade; it used to work a year or so ago.  I don't know what the problem is.  Maps within HTroop will randomly kick players out while switching from one map to another, but just rejoin the map, and there will be no problem.  I believe I have successfully removed all of the problem maps, but I cannot be sure.  Please point out any problems you notice, and email them to me.  This is a Beta release of HTroop.  If you wish to help us edit/fix the remaining problems with HTroop (such as animation problems, sound issues, co-op over network issues, or anything else), please contact the HTroop modding team at:

professor_smth@yahoo.com

Thank You!  See You On The Battlefield Soldier!

To Install HTroop:

Open the install file, follow the steps (choosing your destination directory, which on most computers, the default location is:  your drive letter/Program Files (x86)/EA Games/Battlefield 1942/Mods/  or for Origin users:  (x86)/Origin Games/Battlefield 1942/Mods/

To Uninstall HTroop:

Simply, delete the HTroop mod folder from your mods folder.
